Andrea’s Story

Andrea arrived at Ciudad De Dios at the age of 20 as a single mom with a five-year-old son and an 8-month-old daughter. She had escaped a violent relationship and came seeking safety and a new life for her children. When we met Andrea we began to uncover some amazing talents and dreams she carried deep within her. From being an amazing painter to having an incredible ability to learn new creative skills, we began to support her in turning those talents into a dignified income for her and her children.

As the weeks passed and Andrea created more and more products, she began to share with us that she felt that God was asking her to stay in Mexico and not cross to the United States. She wanted to stay to help support women like her who were coming without family, support, or resources. We were able to secure an apartment locally for Andrea so that she could move out and become independent, and she then enrolled her son in a local private school. We purchased materials and equipment for her to run her own business, and also provided a marketplace partner opportunity in the United States for her to make income while living in Tijuana.

It has been two years since we first began working with Andrea and we’ve been able to witness the most amazing metamorphosis take place. She now leads the artisan group at Ciudad de Dios and brings comfort to women who are at the beginning of their journey. Andrea's story is one that displays the power of God's redemptive work and how he uses relationships to uncover hidden treasure and beauty within those who are hurting. We couldn’t be more proud of Andrea and all that she’s accomplished in just two years. We know that God has big things in store for her and her children and we look forward to a continued partnership with her for years to come.
