Tijuana, Mexico
About Mexico
Nestled on the border of Mexico and the United States, Tijuana is a city marked by migration and diversity. While it offers hope and opportunity for many, it also harbors challenges, especially for refugee children and marginalized communities. In this dynamic setting, Open Road Global is making a meaningful impact.
Our Four Pillars of Support
Open Road Global is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and providing essential support to the people of Tijuana, Mexico. Our work centers on four key areas, each designed to uplift individuals and communities, helping them lead secure and dignified lives.
-
In Tijuana, we believe that education is the key to a brighter future. We partner with the Emily Institute of Education, a school founded with a powerful vision to provide top-quality education at a low cost. The founder's promise to open doors for children from single-parent households and marginalized populations resonates deeply with our mission.
Open Road Global is sponsoring a technology room with 15 computers loaded with English learning applications, opening new educational horizons for students. We believe that access to technology will empower these young minds and increase their chances of entering college programs.
-
For girls aged 14 to 24 who haven't received a formal education, our Small Business Start-Up Co-Op program provides a lifeline. We equip them with artisan skills and business training, helping them avoid alternatives like trafficking, early marriage, or early pregnancy. Graduates have the opportunity to start their own small businesses with our support and oversight, fostering economic independence and self-reliance.
-
Collaborating with community outreach partners, we participate in a once-monthly medical day where doctors and nurses train on-site staff and volunteers. This initiative brings needed medications, assesses patients' needs, and empowers local leaders with the skills and knowledge to handle medical emergencies efficiently. Our overarching goal is to ensure that people locally have the tools and training to deal with healthcare challenges effectively.
-
In Tijuana, we've initiated several community development projects to foster self-sufficiency and community spirit.
• The Greenhouse Project at Ciudad De Dios provides over 50% of the food resources at the refugee camp through a hydroponic food garden. This project not only feeds the camp's residents but also brings the community together, demonstrating the power of collaboration and healthy food accessibility.
• Our Community Chicken Coop initiative offers the surrounding community access to iron and protein-rich foods while fostering unity and shared purpose as neighbors work together on this common project.
