Many families in Malawi's villages rely entirely on corn they harvest as their only food source. To grind the corn into a usable form, they must carry the bags far by foot, and the cost of using a corn grinder is too costly for many of the poorest families.

Community-led chicken coop projects have been a powerful way to provide the surrounding community access to iron and protein-rich foods and bring community members together to work on a joint project.
